Italian Witchcraft and Witches

Italian witchcraft reached its climax under the inquisition. Sorcery was a crime punishable by death and many practioners were crucified or thrown to the lions for such offences as bewitching enemies through the use of images made from wax or preparing poisons.

Outrages allegedly committed by Italian witches included child murder, cannibalism, sex with demons, desecration of the sacred host, the procurement of abortions and bewitching to death.

Notable trials took place when 140 witches were burned at Brescia, another 300 were exectued in Como and at Valcanonica 70 dies and another 5000 were suspected of witchcraft.
